Life in the ED Lane
It’s been more than six months since I took the reigns at NEAT and I cannot believe how much we’ve accomplished in that time. I realize it’s been a while since we’ve given an update on how things are going, but if you’re following us on Instagram and Facebook, you’ll know we haven’t been resting on our laurels.
Since January we painted and re-opened NEAT Finds, saw more than 2,000 students in our Food Secure Kids program which is proudly presented by Pembina Pipeline, flipped a couple hundred burgers and hot dogs at Home Hardware, spoke to hundreds of you at the CKNL Trade Show, planted approximately 4,000 plants, collected more than 15 bins of yard waste, and created Northern Edibles and Camp Wildlings. Not bad, eh?!
In the last six months, I have been absolutely flabbergasted by the teamwork shown by our staff. It’s been very humbling to lead this group of dedicated, creative, and generous people and I am so grateful to be in this position. Throughout this time, I’ve learned more about budgeting and project management than I thought I could in such a short period of time. While the financials are still tight, I am proud to say that NEAT is here to stay. We have spent a lot of time finding our feet and rebuilding our foundations. We’re doing some strategic planning and really focusing on the heart of this organization. If you have been watching from the sidelines, we appreciate your support. Please drop us a line to say what you’re thinking – we would love to hear from you.
Going forward we are exploring some really exciting avenues for programming and are discussing the next evolution of NEAT! We are so happy you’re along for the ride with us. If you value our programming and the role we play in the community, please consider making a donation.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for Learn to Can sessions, the Community Can (thanks NPSCU!), nature based school programming, and a couple of brand new programs too! We’ve got some volunteer opportunities as well that help us stretch every dollar. Sign up for our newsletter to stay in the loop and of course follow us on Instagram and Facebook. And I promise there won’t be a 6-month gap between this post and the next 🙂
Till the next time NEAT Folks,
