POSTPONED – CanadaGAP Workshop

March 18, 2020 @ 9:00 am - March 19, 2020 @ 4:00 pm

Canada GAP

After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone this workshop. We will work with the Ministry of Agriculture to reschedule in the future.

Neat’s Northern Co-Hort is partnering with the BC Ministry of Agriculture to offer a 2 day workshop on the CanadaGAP (Good Agricultural Practices) program on March 18 & 19, 2020. This workshop is being offered for FREE and includes lunch and on-site child minding with Northern Environmental Action Team Educators. Pre-register for your seat and child minding below. Spaces are limited and donations are welcomed.

What is CanadaGAP?

CanadaGAP® is a food safety program for companies that produce, handle and broker fruits and vegetables. The program has received full Canadian Government Recognition, and is designed to help implement and maintain effective food safety procedures within fresh produce operations. Two manuals, one specific to greenhouse operations, the second for other fruit and vegetable operations, have been developed by the horticultural industry and reviewed for technical soundness by Canadian government officials.

What is Program Certification?

Certification indicates that the operation has a system of procedures to minimize the risk of contamination to product. The Certification Body certifies processes, not products. The auditor gathers evidence to attest to the ongoing maintenance of the food safety system, rather than simply gaining a snapshot at a given point in time.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is for current and future vegetable and fruits producers in the Peace Region who are interested in learning about the CanadaGAP program and how certification under the program will open up retail markets beyond direct market sales.

The CanadaGAP® Program is owned and operated by a not-for-profit corporation, CanAgPlus, and has been administered independently from the Canadian Horticultural Council (CHC) since November 1, 2012. The program is seen to support a trusted set of standards to ensure food safety in Canadian horticulture production, processing and distribution.

NEAT On-Site Nature Themed Child Minding

We received funding from the Ministry of Agriculture to pilot on-site child minding during the workshop to support producers who otherwise would not be able to attend due to the cost/availability of child care.

The Northern Environmental Action Teams Educators are thrilled to offer two days of Nature themed activities to engage your children while you learn how to become a part of the emerging Horticulture Industry here in the Peace Region.

Please bring a reusable cup for your kiddo and they will enjoy a variety of activities including healthy food preparation, nature based story time, sing a longs, Wildlings crafts, veggie stamping, games, free time, a movie and more! Pre-registration for child minding is required. Space is limited and donations are welcomed.
