Eco-Farm Skills at the Rustic Market Garden
At the end of May we were fortunate to spend some time with Cait at the Rustic Market Garden practicing organic farming on a small scale.
The Rustic Market Garden is the multi-generational labour of love of Angie Watson and Caitlin Vince, located on 3 acres of the family ranch in Hudson’s Hope. The Rustic is a boutique Market Garden where the Mother/Daughter team grow a wide variety of produce: including root veggies, brassicas , berries, greenhouse tomatoes, field cucumbers, hot peppers, and so much more! The Farm-hers of The Rustic focus on organic and regenerative growing practices to feed their family -and community -with the bounty of the Peace River Valley.
There is a lot going on at the Rustic Market Garden and we did not run out of things to do. Under the supervision of several farm dogs we prepared beds for planting by removing weeds and mixing manure into the soil.
We helped plant potatoes, corn, onions, carrots, kale, broccoli, and set up a pea trellis. With the high temperatures and a little extra watering it won’t be long before some sprouts appear. Look out for some great produce at the Hudson’s Hope farmer’s market this summer!
