Making small changes in your daily life can mean big changes in the big picture. Using a reusable mug means 365+ disposable cups stay out of the landfill.

Small changes make a big difference. Reuse.

There are little things that we can do in our daily lives to help reduce waste.  Remember to take your reusable travel mug while you’re out shopping.  Not only will it keep your drink warm in this cold weather, but many stores will give you a discount when you buy a coffee with your reusable mug.  If the giving spirit means that your friend brings you a Specialty Coffee that is only available this time of year, remember that most of the cups used these days are paper and can be rinsed and recycled.  You don’t have to throw them in the garbage.

This is great because 58 billion paper cups are thrown away (not recycled) every year. This accounts for 20 million trees being cut down in the process of manufacturing paper cups & the amount of water used in the process is approximately 12 billion gallons.

If you are more of the type that needs their caffeine fix by the pot, or you make it at home, there are ways for you to reduce waste too.  Whether it is a carafe or Keurig, invest in a reusable filter for your coffee maker.  You never have to panic again when you realize you are out of filters.  If you’re still looking for some stocking stuffers like I am, this can be a great gift for that eco-conscious coffee lover in your life.
While we are talking about coffee, no matter the size, you can keep it all out of the landfill if you compost.  You can even add coffee grounds directly into your flower beds.  Just mix it in with the dirt when spring returns.  (Don’t worry.  It always does.)

We are full of ideas, but we always like to hear about your ideas to reduce waste.  Please share!
