As you may have read, the Peace River Regional District has decided to take the Waste Reduction Education and Outreach program in-house at the end of 2017. NEAT has been carrying out this contract for the past 20 years and these activities have become core components of our service offerings.
As you can imagine, this decision has a tremendous impact on our bottom line. We are in the process of restructuring our organization, prioritizing our programming, and planning for the coming year. NEAT has been lucky that the PRRD contract meant, for the most part, we have not needed to do a lot of fundraising – that has changed.
We know that thousands of local residents participate in NEAT programming each year, like Soup Stock and Food Secure Kids, the Community Can and Energy is Awesome, NEAT has been an active member of our communities providing reliable environmental information for more than 25 years. Please help us continue this work by becoming a monthly sponsor or by making a one time donation.
While this news is tough, we are excited about the opportunities that it presents to grow as an organization to meet the needs of all of the communities in northern BC. We have a lot of plans for 2018 taking shape already and can’t wait for you to see them.
We are still available to visit classrooms and provide guidance or inspiration to educators as we all strive to connect our children to the natural world around them. Click here to book a program. Look for new lesson plans and a special new educator’s membership full of benefits coming in the New Year.
Watch our newsletter, website, and Facebook page to keep up to date on future programming opportunities. We truly appreciate the role each of you have played in making NEAT the organization it is today and look forward to building a NEAT future with you over the next 20 years!
