Waste Reduction Week All Month Long
Today is October 1st. Before your brain responds with “Thank you Captain Obvious!”, please let me explain why I feel the need to point this out. Waste Reduction Week is 2 weeks away, but we can’t wait that long. We plan to make this annual event last all month long. We have lined up articles, videos, and even guest writers to help us out with this.
What is Waste Reduction Week? Well, back in the mid-1980’s, Canada really started jumping on the recycling band wagon. The Recycling Council of Ontario started the national Waste Reduction Week program in 2001 and support for it has grown every year all across the country.
We don’t want to leave you out of the fun. We want to challenge you to give something up for the month of October. You can choose something that you have been thinking about for a while, or you can choose something from our list;
- Single use cups
- Single use water bottles
- Single use coffee pods
- Single use straws
- Zip-loc bags
- Plastic cling wrap
- Disposable cutlery
- Plastic shopping bags
- Take-out containers
We would love for you to share with us your experience, good or bad. You can tell us what you are giving up, the challenges you have found, and your success story. Email your experience to us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we may feature you on the neat.ca website. You can even share pictures. If you want to do this, but you don’t really know how to start, let us help you #sortitout. We look forward to seeing what you have decided to give up for the month of October.
