Fort St. John discards over 50,000 tires each year. From those tires, companies are able to grind them up and upcycle them into pavers for sidewalks and driveways. NEAT would like to bring that re-use to our region.
In an effort to prove this is a viable option, NEAT is doing a pilot project. We are offering an opportunity for businesses, families and individuals to sponsor a tile. We have 2 sizes available: 1' x 2' for $150, and 2' x 2' for $250. These tiles will be engraved with the business, individual or family name you choose. These tiles will be placed on a pathway, sidewalk or trail in Fort St. John for all to see.
In addition to utilizing a material that could just end up in a landfill, these tiles have many benefits to the environment and the people using them. With our cold winters, we have all had to deal with frost heaves. If a heave occurs under these tiles, they only have to be reinstalled. This reduces construction waste. The tiles are water permeable, which reduces the risk of flooding on a path. They are slip resistant and have a cushioning support, which reduces injury in a fall. Because of the cushion effect, they also reduce stress on joints while running and walking.
We are paving the way to a more sustainable future and we want you to be part of it. For more information on sponsoring a tile, email NEAT at info@neat.ca or call 250-785-6328.
