These are the words the "cool" kids use, but guess what? These are all words that can be used for items that are being "REUSED."
In honour of Waste Reduction Week, I went looking for ways to make "reuse" fresh and cool. In my travels, I visited Scoop Clothing in Fort St. John. They are a trendy little clothing store that would NEVER make recycling cross your mind, yet, they think about it all the time. They have taken reuse to a whole new level.
Where we see old records (came before cd's and dvd's), they see window treatments. Where we see old, hard sided suitcases, they see display opportunities. They have even made old ladders into something cool to hang scarves on.
The part I loved about my visit to Scoop is that you don't notice that they have "someone's junk" in their window. They were able to make those items look new, fresh, and cool. The records hang from the ceiling with a James Dean poster. The suitcases are used to hold delicates. They have even used the paint bucket shelf on the ladder to display jewelry. These ideas are fresh, simple, and anyone could take these ideas and adjust them to fit their needs.
It is never garbage until it is actually thrown away. Take another look. You could actually have something that is "retro."
