Gift Wrap not Recyclable

Please help us spread the word this holiday season that wrapping paper is not recyclable.

Our recycling depots are inundated with wrapping paper each year. The recycling mills we ship our paper to do not accept wrapping paper for recycling, therefore, we end up disposing of it at the landfill anyways. Save yourself the trouble of bringing it down to the recycling depot only to find that we do not accept it. Please include all wrapping paper with your household garbage. Please don’t contaminate your recyclable office paper and newsprint with un-recyclable wrapping paper.

Wrapping paper is not recyclable, because…

  • Wrapping paper is often dyed, laminated and/or contains non-paper additives such as gold and silver coloured shapes, glitter, plastics, etc which cannot be recycled
  • Some wrapping paper is very thin and contains few good quality fibres for recycling
  • A lot of wrapping paper has sticky tape attached to it which makes it very difficult to recycle

Thanks in advance for your help spreading the word!
