Environmental Education Program Coordinator
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Program Coordinator will report to the Executive Director of NEAT. The Program Coordinator is responsible for:
• Research, design and implement educational presentations and workshops to community groups, schools and businesses on resource conservation (recycling, composting, water conservation, alternatives to household hazardous products, energy conservation, idle reduction, sustainability) and other practical programs;
• Plan and implement environmental/conservation education programs;
• Research, development and/or update of educational materials including power point presentations, brochures, articles and posters;
• Coordinating participation in community special events;
• Proactive communication with staff, partners and community;
• Managing a staff of Eco Advisors in providing practical assistance for composting, recycling and other resource conservation activities;
• Collection and utilization of information for the waste reduction directory and materials exchange program;
• Implementation of Corporate and Industrial business waste assessments;
• Providing research and data analysis for resource conservation education programs; and
• Providing other duties as required.
This position is a full time, permanent position based on 35 hours per week with availability to accommodate special events and other activities as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Sensitivity to and knowledge of environmental issues primarily focused on resource conservation.
• Strong communication and public speaking skills.
• Experienced in preparing well written and successful proposals.
• Proven ability to communicate with tact and discretion.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work unsupervised and with demonstrated motivation and initiative.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and some experience with desktop publishing software.
REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
• Post-secondary education, preferably in communications and public relations and/or environmental management or equivalent experience.
• Valid BC Driver’s License and acceptable driver’s abstract
• Meets requirements for working with children
• May be subject to security review.
TERM OF POSITION
This is a permanent, full time to start immediately.
Starting salary at $42,000.00 per year upon successful completion of 3 month probationary period. Reimbursement for use of personal vehicle at $.52/km.
