JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Eco Advisor will:
•    Deliver educational presentations and workshops to community groups, schools and businesses on recycling, composting, water conservation, alternatives to household hazardous products, energy conservation, idle reduction, sustainability and other practical programs;
•    Assist with the research, planning and implementation of environmental/conservation education programs and presentations;
•    Provide practical assistance for composting, recycling and other waste reduction activities;
•    Participate in community special events;
•    Answer telephone, email and personal enquiries;
•    Perform business waste and energy assessments;
•    Develop potential community contacts for partnerships or presentations; and
•    Provide research, data analysis and draft quality written reports for various waste reduction programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•    Sensitivity to and knowledge of environmental issues primarily focused on resource conservation.
•    Excellent written and oral communication and public speaking skills.
•    Strong organizational and communication skills.
•    Ability to work unsupervised with demonstrated motivation and initiative.
•    Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
•    Ability to work varied hours.
•   Familiarity with standard office programs.

REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

•    Post-secondary education is preferable; equivalent experience in communications and public relations and/or environmental management is beneficial.
•    Valid BC Driver’s License and acceptable driver’s abstract.
•    Must meet requirements for working with children.
•    May be subject to security review.

TERM OF POSITION

•    This is a permanent, part-time position, with the opportunity to increase!
•    Hours vary according to the location and the activities being undertaken. The positions offer Equivalent to Full-Time-Employment (FTE) as above based on a 35 hour work week.
•    Compensation is $19.00 per hour, plus statutory benefits (after three month probationary period). Reimbursement for use of personal vehicle will be $0.52/km.
